Arsenal look to be considering playing Mathieu Debuchy out of position at centre-back for the visit of his old club Newcastle United this weekend, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The French international only just returned to action after three months out injured when he started the Champions League game against Galatasaray in midweek, and he may now have to try his luck in a new position this weekend.

Arsenal are without Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal, the latter of whom has played out of position in the middle himself this season, due to injury, while versatile youngster Calum Chambers is missing due to suspension.

This leaves Per Mertesacker as Arsenal’s only recognised central defender, leaving Arsene Wenger with little choice but to consider Debuchy in that role at the Emirates Stadium this Saturday.

It is also reported that Arsenal will try their luck with a move for Ipswich Town defender Tyrone Mings to aid their problems at the back this January.
