Los Blancos want Reus or Sergio Aguero.

That is why in a bizarre report from Tuttomercato Los Blancos are willing to sell Gareth Bale to Manchester United for just €45m (£36.8m) – almost £50m less than Madrid paid for the Welshman a little over 12 months ago.

The Red Devils have been known admirers of Bale for some time and even tried to sign the 25-year-old before he left Tottenham Hotspur; with the attacker choosing the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu instead.

Yet under the new Financial Fair Play rules this would seem a crazy move by Madrid, particularly when the Wales international has actually been in pretty good form since arriving in the Spanish capital in the summer of 2013.

United also have their eye on Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben, who is thought to be available for around €36m and looks a more likely deal due to the Netherlands international’s age and the fact he has previously worked with Louis van Gaal.

The question is also with the likes of Angel di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie at Old Trafford whether van Gaal actually needs more attacking players and if money would be better spent on defenders.
