The Spanish international, currently on loan at AC Milan, looks like cutting his deal at the San Siro short to make the move back to the Vicente Calderon this season in an attempt to revive his career.

Torres has had a difficult time at Chelsea since his £50m move from Liverpool back in 2011, failing to live up to expectations and suffering a major dip in form after some fine performances in his time at Anfield.

The 30-year-old has now supposedly held positive talks with Atletico during the Christmas period, and a deal may have already been struck for him to return to the club where he started his career.

Diego Simeone’s side could do with more depth upfront and Torres could make a useful rotation option with first-choice striker Mario Mandzukic.

Torres’ move to Madrid could also make way for Alessio Cerci to join Milan on loan after the Italian’s disappointing start to life in La Liga since joining from Torino in the summer.
