The England international has been linked to a move to Manchester City in recent weeks, and is apparently seen by the Citizens hierarchy as the eventual replacement for Yaya Toure. The 21-year-old has been in and out of a faltering Toffees side this season.

However, Martinez has now assured the Merseyside club’s fans that they have not received any bids for the starlet, and are intent on keeping him for the foreseeable future. This will be bad news for rival manager Manuel Pellegrini.

“We have not received any approach,” the 41-year-old said. “This January it is vital we recapture our best form and regaining some momentum. If our best performers get compliments, we enjoy hearing those compliments and that is good but nobody will be leaving.”

Everton themselves should be on the look out for a new goalkeeper. Tim Howard has been ruled out for six weeks, and Joel Robles is the only goalie with top flight experience who is fit. A new stopper could be imperative should the Goodison Park outfit look to get out of the bad form they are currently in.
