The former striker was making his debut as a pundit on Sky Sports when he made the observation. Henry thinks that Arsene Wenger should get the midfielder in to help protect the fragile back four at the Emirates Stadium.

The Cameroonian has been in great form for West Ham this season, making 15 appearances in defensive midfield for the Hammers.

The pair never managed to play together under Wenger, managing to miss each other despite both being at the club for long stints. The Frenchman thinks that the team needs someone to play in a ‘Claude Makelele’ role, to take charge of the defensive side of the midfield.

“Song would improve Arsenal. That is the type of player you want in front of your back four,” Henry was quoted by the Daily Express.

“Song is the captain of the boat. He protects the back four. You need someone to dictate, put players into position, make little fouls by kicking someone – like Claude Makelele used to do.”

The North London club beat Manchester City 2-0 in what was one of their best performances of the current campaign on Sunday. The victory has given hope that they will be able to get back in to the top four of the Premier League in the near future.
