Wenger revealed yesterday that the Chilean forward, Sanchez, was suffering with a hamstring complaint and could be short for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Paul Lambert’s side.

And the Arsenal boss has now said he is unlikely to risk Alexis this weekend but did reveal that Gabriel, the Gunners new boy, will be in the squad though was unclear whether he would start.

“I saw great quality. His level of concentration, he’s quick, has great commitment and he’s young,” said Wenger when explaining why he signed the Villarreal defender. Updates were also given on the expected return dates of Danny Welbeck and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the former Manchester United man could play against the Villans, but will likely return for the North London Derby next week.

Chamberlain, meanwhile, will definitely not feature this weekend and may not even be fit to face Spurs.

And it was also revealed that Francis Coquelin is close to signing a new contract after reports claimed the midfielder was stalling on a new deal, saying he was “99 per cent” certain he would commit his long term future to the club.
