The Poland international has made just one appearance since his New Year’s Day horror show against Southampton and subsequent fine for smoking in the showers.

David Ospina has proved an able substitute in this six games since the turn of the year, conceding just three goals, but the 24 year old Pole has said to have impressed the Arsenal boss in training this week, reports Evening Standard.

It’s hardly that much of a surprise move from Wenger who awarded Szczesny just his second start in 2015 against Brighton in the last round of the cup competition.

Jack Wilshere could also return to the Arsenal team after three months out with ankle ligament damage but is unlikely to start.

Alexis Sanchez is also set to be declared fit despite suffering a nasty knee knock against Leicester City and could join Wilshere on the bench.

Gabriel, who signed for the north London side last month in a £11.2 million deal from Villarreal, could also be in line to make his Arsenal debut at the weekend.
