The FA have rescinded Sunderland defender Wes Brown’s red card, seemingly received in error, against Manchester United on Saturday.

The former Red Devil was sent off for bringing down Radamel Falcao in the penalty area, although John O’Shea actually committed the foul.

The professional referees’ body clarified that it was not in fact a case of mistaken identity.

However, the FA have now upheld the Black Cats’ claim of wrongful dismissal, cancelling the 35-year-old’s suspension.

This means he will be able to play against Hull City on Tuesday.
