Sunderland boss Gus Poyet’s future at the Stadium of Light is hanging by a thread according to the Telegraph.

The Uruguayan watched on as his Black Cats side conceded four first half goals against notoriously toothless opposition, which led to a fan revolt, and bitter recriminations for Poyet.

A number of home fans attempted to confront Poyet during the game and the under-fire manager appears to understand their frustrations.

“I’m shocked because I was not expecting that,”

“It was probably the worst performance at home since I’ve been here.

“I don’t speak to the owner after every game and I’ve not spoken to him yet, I don’t know what he is thinking, but we need to speak.

“I understand the fans anger because I would be the same. For me, it’s a mixture of disbelief and shock.” Poyet added.

The defeat leaves Sunderland just one point clear of the relegation zone, with Burnley’s win over Man City closing the gap, and Poyet may well be axed before the north-east side lurch any nearer to the Championship.
