Manchester City will not give up on appointing Diego Simeone as their new manager next season, despite the Argentine being close to signing a new contract with Atletico Madrid.

According to the Daily Mirror, Simeone remains City’s priority target to replace Manuel Pellegrini, who is under growing pressure as the club heads towards a likely trophyless season.
The 44-year-old has worked wonders during his time at the Vicente Calderon, winning La Liga and reaching the Champions League final last season despite having limited resources to work with.
Still, Atletico remain hopeful of keeping their star manager at the club, despite City’s strong pursuit of him as the summer approaches.
