Man Utd handed major injury boost as ace returns for Manchester derby

Manchester United’s push for Champions League qualification has just received another boost as striker Robin van Persie is set to return from injury in time to face Manchester City according to the Daily Mail.

The Dutchman has been out of action since picking up a ankle ligament injury in United’s 2-1 defeat by Swansea at the Liberty Stadium last month, but the Red Devils have only lost once in the five games in his absence – a home defeat by his former club Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter final.

Nevertheless, the 31-year-old’s return to fitness will no doubt be viewed as a major plus for manager Louis van Gaal.

His side face a trip to league leaders Chelsea a week after the City clash, which is then followed up with a tricky looking game at Goodison Park against Everton.

Van Persie has scored 10 goals in 26 appearances this season, but worries over his fitness have resurfaced and with his contract up at the end of next season, there have been suggestions that he could depart Old Trafford in the summer.
