The 21 year old winger has been in superb form this term, his 19 goal haul making him the Eredivisie’s leading scorer, and is also said to be a player courted by Man United boss Louis van Gaal.

Brendan Rodgers could well do with strengthening his attack, which is firing far less effectively than in 2013/14, and Depay certainly looks like a bright prospect.

One would have to imagine van Gaal’s efforts to bring in Depay would be aided by two factors. Firstly the Old Trafford boss showed great faith in the youngster at the 2014 World Cup finals, where the attacker netted twice, and secondly Man United will more than likely have Champions League football to offer.

Liverpool may struggle to secure that coveted top four spot though Monday night’s win over Newcastle United does cut the gap to Man City to just four points.

Depay has already amassed 118 club appearances and has 15 national team caps to his name and appears capable of making a ‘step-up’ to one of Europe’s ‘big leagues’.
