The Red Devils have made the Wales international their key transfer target and want to use Los Merengues’ interest in De Gea to leverage a deal for the former Tottenham Hotspur forward.

United have slapped a £45 million price tag on the Spain goalkeeper, but would ideally see him move to the Bernabeu as part of a swap deal to bring Bale back to the Premier League according to the Express.

Simultaneously, United have also offered the stopper a new £200,000-per-week deal, leaving him with a potentially tricky decision to make.

Louis van Gaal’s side want some clarity on De Gea’s future—particularly as they weight-up a move for Spurs stopper and France captain Hugo Lloris—and are keen for Real to make their position known before the end of the month.

Bale moved to La Liga in 2013 for a world-record £86 million, but despite his goals, and winning the Champions League last year, he isn’t universally considered to be a success at the Bernabeu.
