Barcelona striker Lionel Messi was in the giving mood in their emphatic 8-0 victory against Cordoba on Saturday in La Liga as he passed up an opportunity of a hat-trick by allowing team-mate Neymar to take a penalty.

The Argentine followed up his brace in the 6-0 win against Getafe in midweek with another two-goal haul against the rock-bottom side and when the Brazilian striker won a penalty, many expected Messi to take the spot-kick and complete his treble, however, he generously handed the ball to his strike partner.

Neymar made no mistake from 12 yards as he scored the seventh of the game for the Catalan giants and added to goals from Ivan Rakitic, Gerard Pique and a Luis Suarez hat-trick as the La Liga leaders romped to an easy win.
