According to reports in Spanish publication AS, Ronaldo has spoken to his team-mate whilst on holiday to check on the current situation, amid speculation that Ramos could depart the Santiago Bernabeu in the near future.

The Spanish international has emerged as a surprise transfer target for the Red Devils in the past week as manager Louis van Gaal hopes to take advantage of a contract stalemate between Ramos and Los Blancos.

Guardian Sport reported last weekend that United were interested in the 29-year-old and could be open to a deal that would involve goalkeeper David De Gea moving in the opposite direction.

Then the speculation increased as Independent Sport claimed that Ramos had begun taking English lessons, which added further fuel to the rumours that a switch to Old Trafford is very much on the table.

However, reports in Spain [via Marca] reported that a truce between the player and club had been called and that his future will be sorted by within the next couple of weeks.

That did not prevent United from making an opening offer that was thought to have been in the region of £35m, but the Daily Mail report that that was swiftly rejected by Madrid, who have now slapped a £65m price-tag on Ramos’ head in order to ward off any interest, according to another report from the Mail.

Now with Ronaldo set to intervene to ensure that his close friend Ramos remains at the club next season, it remains to be seen whether or not the two parties can agree a new deal or risk upsetting the best player at the club.
