According to reports in Spain, the agent of Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi has flown to England to seal his client’s transfer to Manchester United.

The defender has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent transfer windows, and speculation has intensified this summer as Louis van Gaal looks to remould his Red Devils squad.

AS report that a deal may well be imminent, with the player’s representative having taken a flight from Spain in order to push through a move to the Premier League giants.

The news follows quickly after reports that the Argentina international had gone on strike in order to force through a summer move to Old Trafford [Marca].

The player decided, after the end of last term, that he had had enough of life at the Mestalla, and was keen to secure a switch away from the club.

AS report that Otamendi may be on the brink of getting his wish, with meetings set to take place between the player’s agent and United’s representatives over the coming days.

Should United decide they want to sign the 27-year-old, they will likely need to meet his £35.5 million fee release clause [Metro], although considering the unconvincing performances of the likes of Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling, van Gaal may feel that a new stopper is a necessity.

The club have also been linked with a move for Real Madrid stopper Sergio Ramos, but with the World Cup winner set to be offered the captaincy at the Bernabeu, he may well opt to remain with the Spanish giants [Independent].
