Gunners ace nears exit due to Man Utd deal.

Ajax have approached Arsenal over the possible signing of Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny this summer, with the club expecting their own number one, Jasper Cillessen, to join Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.

The Gunners have made a big signing of their own in that position this summer, bringing in Petr Cech from Chelsea as their new number one, a position Szczesny had held largely on his own for the last few seasons, though David Ospina also challenged him for a place in 2014/15.

With three ‘keepers now on the books at the Emirates Stadium, Szczesny could make his way to Amsterdam as the Eredivisie giants look to him as their replacement for the outgoing Cillessen, with the Daily Express also suggesting the club are going to struggle to stop the Netherlands international heading to Old Trafford.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal will end up letting Szczesny go, with some recent rumours that Ospina could also be on his way out after interest from Everton, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Still, it is somewhat surprising to see that Cillessen looks so likely to leave Ajax for United, with reports elsewhere today that the club are looking to bring in Sergio Romero on a free transfer (via the Daily Telegraph), while David de Gea’s move to Real Madrid may not even happen unless Sergio Ramos is included in the deal, according to BBC Sport.
