The Spanish winger became the fourth major signing for the Blues during the current transfer window following the arrivals of Radamel Falcao, Asmir Begovic and Abdul Baba Rahman as the 28-year-old completed a £21million move from Liga BBVA giants Barcelona on Thursday.
Pedro had been tipped to depart the Camp Nou since the arrival of Arda Turan from Atletico Madrid and it looked a certainty that he would be signing for the Red Devils after the club’s chief executive Ed Woodward had reportedly flown out to Spain on Monday night to seal a deal.
However, the move broke down and the West London outfit were able to swoop in and wrap up the deal within a matter of days.
Speaking for the first time as a Blues player, Pedro said manager Jose Mourinho and compatriot Cesc Fabregas were influential in his decision to sign for the club.
“He (Mourinho) is one of the main reasons why I’m here. He phoned me a few times and said he needed me to make the team stronger,” the World Cup winner told the club’s official website.
“He has won titles wherever he has been. I am really looking forward to playing under him and hopefully winning more titles.”
“I spoke to Cesc. We are very good friends. I knew I would feel at home here and that was one of the main reasons why I decided to join.”
“He’s a great player, he’s got brilliant vision and he links up really well with the other attacking players. I know we work well together on the pitch so I can’t wait to play with him again,” Pedro added.
