Chelsea ready to allow veteran to leave on free transfer this summer

Chelsea are ready to offload Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic when his current contract expires at the end of the season according to the Daily Mirror.

The 31-year-old Blues star has endured a miserable time of it this season with a host of poor displays which have played their part in Chelsea’s woeful start to their Premier League title defence.

The likes of Jefferson Montero and Raheem Sterling have left Branislav Ivanovic for dead and the usually reliable Chelsea star has looked off the pace and there is speculation that Jose Mourinho will look to move Cesar Azpilicueta from left-back to right-back in order to accommodate new signing Baba Rahman.

Chelsea signed Branislav Ivanovic from Spartak Moscow back in 2008 and the defender has made a total of 322 appearances for the Stamford Bridge side.

The Daily Mirror claim there is interest from MLS sides New York City and the LA Galaxy and a move to America might tempt Ivanovic if no new Chelsea contract is forthcoming.
