Manchester United have been handed a major boost with the news that David de Gea has signed a new four-year contract with the club, as confirmed via their official Twitter page.

The Spanish international came close to joining Real Madrid on transfer deadline day before complications over the paperwork meant the deal could not be concluded in time.

Incredibly, De Gea has now extended his stay at Old Trafford for four years, with an option to add a fifth year onto that.

It is rumoured that the 24-year-old will earn a whopping £200,000 per week, making him one of the team’s highest earners.
