Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini reacts to Champions League defeat: Juventus didn’t deserve victory

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes his side were unlucky to come out with nothing from their opening Champions League group stage clash with Juventus.

The Etihad Stadium side took the lead through a Giorgio Chiellini own goal just before the hour mark before goals from Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata secured a win for the Italian champions.

Pellegrini’s side have struggled to make a sustained impact in the Champions League in recent seasons and the Chilean would have hoped his side’s strong start to the Premier League campaign, Man City having a 100% record in domestic league action, would filter through to continental action but it wasn’t to be the case.

“It’s disappointing, I don’t think we deserved to lose,”

“We had better chances and played better than Juventus. It was a typical Champions League game, both teams didn’t create many chances but we had more possession.

“It was not a tactical problem, Juventus just scored two beautiful goals.”
