Atletico Madrid president admits highly-rated coach has control over his own future amidst Chelsea rumours

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has admitted that coach Diego Simeone, amidst speculation that the manager could replace Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.

The Daily Star acknowledged reports linking Simeone with the job at Stamford Bridge earlier this month, while they also referenced the claim of the Secret Footballer, who claimed that the Argentine coach would be the ideal man to replace under-pressure Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager won the Premier League title with the Blues last season, but is in the midst of a nightmare campaign this season. After 12 matches, the West London heavyweights sit down in 16th in the Premier League table, having won only three of their seven matches to date.

Simeone—who won the Spanish title with Atletico Madrid in 2014, and helped the club to the Champions League final in the same year—could be an ideal coach for Chelsea, and his president has admitted that he may be powerless to stop the former Argentine midfielder from leaving.

“He will be at Atletico Madrid as long as he wants to be here,” Cerezo said, speaking to Radio Marca, as per Le 10 Sport.

Simeone arrived at Atletico in 2011, and the French source have also suggested that he may be a replacement for Laurent Blanc at Paris Saint-Germain.
