Real Madrid make contact with Pep Guardiola over possible replacing Rafa Benitez

Real Madrid are apparently going behind Rafael Benitez’s back to source a replacement for him and have reportedly identified former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola as a potential replacement, according to Catalan publication Ara.

Despite the La Liga giants stating the contrary earlier in the week, Ara claim that they have already begun looking for someone to take over from the former Liverpool man and have targeted a most unlikely name in the process.

But a move for Guardiola, who so famously played and managed arch-rivals Barcelona, could prove difficult to pull off, thanks to his lengthy connections with the Blaugrana.

However, according to Ara, Madrid have sounded Guardiola out about taking over the reigns next season, fully aware that his Bayern contract is up at next summer, and that he’s yet to officially sign a pre-contract anywhere, despite the recent reports linking him with Manchester City.

Though it seems unlikely that Guardiola would take the job on face value, money does talk more these days, and as the old saying goes; ‘stranger things have happened’.
