Boost for Liverpool as potential Mignolet upgrade refuses to confirm Italy switch

Liverpool could still land Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu after the goalkeeper denied that he’d agreed a deal with Torino.

As reported by Goal, the Italian stopper confirmed to the media earlier this week that he hadn’t heard about Torino’s interest and hinted that there may soon be a development on his future.

However, perhaps worryingly for Liverpool, the guardsman did appear to reaffirm his desire to shine at PSG.

“At the moment, I’m only thinking about PSG,” Sirigu began. “I think you’ll have some news soon. I don’t know about Torino, the management haven’t told me anything.

“I’ve never said that I want to leave.”

However, the experienced stopper—who was first-choice at the Parc des Princes until the summer, when he was usurped by new signing Kevin Trapp—has admitted that he isn’t totally happy with the current situation in the French capital.

“It’s a complicated situation,” he continued, ” but we will think about it with the club.”

Sirgu has enjoyed great success in Paris since moving to the Ligue 1 heavyweights from Palermo in 2011, winning three French titles, two League Cups and the French Cup.

However, he has been a peripheral figure since the arrival of Trapp, and has been tipped for a move away.

Liverpool—unconvinced by the error-prone Simon Mignolet—are understood to be in the market for a new stopper, with Steve Mandanda of Olympique de Marseille and Jack Butland of Stoke City both linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks.
