Phil pays penalty after Gary Neville dismissal at Valencia

Phil Neville has been demoted from Valencia‘s bench for their trip to Las Palmas in La Liga this weekend, only days after his brother Gary was dismissed.

The elder Neville was sacked as first-team coach on Wednesday, and has been replaced by former Liverpool coach Pako Ayestaran.

According to Sid Lowe of The Guardian, Phil didn’t travel with Valencia on Friday for their away trip at Las Palmas on Saturday, and it’s not anticipated that the former Everton and Manchester United player will take his place in Los Che’s dugout again this season.

Neville will continue to work with the first-team squad throughout the week, although while The Guardian note that his immediate future is secure, the Daily Mail suggest that he has not only been replaced on the bench, but also demoted from his position as assistant coach.

Phil moved to Valencia during the summer under previous coach Espirito Santo, and while he looks set to remain with the club, Neville’s other assistant coach—Miguel Angel Angulo—has been dismissed [as per The Guardian as above].
