Jurgen Klopp ‘delighted’ after Liverpool finalizes signing of Simon Mignolet replacement

“At last, I’ve found a guy to replace you!”

Whether he’s happier to bring Loris Karius in or to potentially kick Simon Mignolet out, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is happy nonetheless to have brought the 22-year-old goalkeeper to Anfield as one of his first major signings with the club.

In an interview with the Liverpool official website [per the Express], Klopp expressed his delight with having the former Mainz 05 goalkeeper join him and was grateful that Karius chose Liverpool over a variety of other interested clubs.

“I am delighted we have signed Loris, he has had a fantastic season with Mainz and has developed into a very good goalkeeper since his return to Germany,” Klopp said.

“I am really pleased that we were able to move so quickly to get him and that Loris has shown such a desire to come to Liverpool with a lot of other clubs interested in him.

“I know he will add to the quality we have in this position and I look forward to working with him and all our players when we return for pre-season.”

Karius made 10 clean sheets with Mainz 05 this past season and has made 90 appearances in Serie A for the club over the past three years. He signed with Liverpool earlier today.

Simon Mignolet was much-maligned for the bulk of the season, making 11 clean sheets but allowing the majority of the 50 goals Liverpool gave up in the Premier League this season. Karius, on the other hand, allowed just 42 games after starting the entire season in Bundesliga.
