Liverpool were dealt a blow on Friday after it was confirmed that new goalkeeper Loris Karius had suffered a broken hand and would be sidelined for two months.
Albeit perhaps a little prematurely, the summer signing was expected to start as Jurgen Klopp’s first choice between the posts this season.
However, that will no longer be the case after he suffered the serious injury and will now be sidelined for at least two months. In turn, that gives Simon Mignolet the chance to step in and prove himself all over again, with new signing Alex Manninger set to be back-up.
It clearly hasn’t filled many Liverpool fans with much confidence though, as a number of them took to Twitter to share their dread over the news that the Belgian international will be back in the starting line-up.
Although he remains a top shot-stopper, Mignolet has certainly been guilty of making some big blunders over the past two years, and as a result, confidence has drained from the supporters.

“Ooh, my name is trending,” says Simon Mignolet. “Don’t click on that!” cries Mrs Mignolet.

Strap Mignolet down, inject anaesthetic and transplant his hand to Karius.

Can only hope the thought of Karius returning and seriously threatening his position will bring out the best in Mignolet. Faint hope.

Karius was our most important signing of the summer. Mignolet the weakest link in the side- affects the entire defence. This is a huge blow.
