MLS star baffled by rumours of transfer to Aston Villa as he dismisses return to England

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has revealed that he is baffled by rumours to a transfer to Championship outfit Aston Villa.

The Montreal Impact striker sent out a message from his official Twitter account that he has no idea why there were reports of him being in Birmingham.

Drogba was closely linked with a move to Villa after owner Tony Xia revealed that the club were close to signing a top class striker.

Villa head coach Roberto Di Matteo was of course in charge of the Chelsea side that won the Champions League title with Drogba scoring the winning penalty against Bayern Munich.

After helping Chelsea win the Premier League in 2015, Drogba left the club for a second time – after joining Turkish giants Galatasaray – moving to Montreal where he has bagged 21 goals in 28 games.

Drogba won every domestic title at Chelsea including the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield, but it doesn’t appear as though he is heading back to England any time soon.

In turn, the speculation over the identity of Villa’s main attacking target goes on as Di Matteo looks to add a seventh summer signing to his squad as the rebuild at Villa continues to push them on to secure immediate promotion back to the Premier League.
