Arsenal had £80 million summer bid rejected for striker who scored 39 goals last season according to agent

Arsenal had an £80 million offer rejected for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer according to Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito, report Goal.

Goal reveal Morabito’s claims that the Gunners submitted a lucrative offer believed to be worth £80 million to the Bundesliga side in the summer, but they did not want to sell their prolific forward.

Aubameyang joined Dortmund in the summer of 2013 and has since scored 94 goals in 156 appearances, including a 39-goal haul last campaign. His devastating speed, mercurial nature and deadly finishing has terrorised German defences.

If Morabito is to be believed, Wenger was extremely eager to bring Aubameyang to the Emirates. Arsenal have struggled to find a reliable centre-forward in recent seasons, with Olivier Giroud continually falling short. This campaign Wenger has opted to field Alexis Sanchez upfront and it is a decision that has paid off thus far.

Arsenal look capable of mounting a genuine title-challenge this campaign, it is frightening to think what they could have done if they were able to acquire Aubameyang.
