Liverpool plotting £50m spending spree in January to land two key players

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly set to splash out £50m on two key additions in January to boost his side’s Premier League title hopes.

The Reds are in the mix for the title this season as they look to close the gap to leaders Chelsea to a solitary point when they face Bournemouth on Sunday.

However, Klopp is still keen on making crucial signings to bolster his squad in January, with The Express reporting that both Virgil van Dijk and Moussa Dembele are on his transfer radar with £50m set aside to land his top targets.

It’s noted that Manchester City are favourites to sign the Southampton defender as Pep Guardiola looks for a replacement for injury-plagued Vincent Kompany, but Klopp will hope that the Dutchman is keen to follow the likes of Adam Lallana and Sadio Mane to Anfield with the two clubs doing plenty of business with one another in recent years.

That isn’t the only deal that he’s eyeing though, as Dembele is also on the shortlist with Liverpool looking to cover the absence of Mane in January when he reports for international duty for the African Cup of Nations.

The 20-year-old has scored 17 goals in 28 appearances for Celtic since his summer move from Fulham, and so it comes as no surprise that he’s attracting interest from around Europe, with Tottenham, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid said to be monitoring him too, as per the report.

As with any January business, it will be a risk as Klopp won’t want to disrupt the chemistry and balance in his side with new additions.

However, he has to act to ensure that Liverpool don’t slip off the pace as they certainly look like genuine title contenders this season having made an impressive start to the campaign.
