Manchester United £25m misfit emerges as top target for ambitious Premier League rivals

West Bromwich Albion reportedly held a board meeting last week to prepare for the January transfer window, with Manchester United star Morgan Schneiderlin in their sights.

According to The Telegraph, Tony Pulis will have over £20m at his disposal to strengthen his squad, and Schneiderlin and Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez top his list of potential targets.

The Baggies have been very impressive so far this season as they sit just a point adrift of United in sixth place in the Premier League standings and continue to keep themselves involved in the race for European football early on in the season.

In turn, it appears as though Pulis and the board are ready to take a leap of faith and splash out in January in order to sustain their momentum and see where the campaign takes them.

Schneiderlin joined United from Southampton last summer in a £25m deal, as reported by BBC Sport, but after making 42 appearances for former boss Louis van Gaal last season, he has been restricted to just eight under Jose Mourinho so far this year.

In turn, having fallen down the pecking order, the French international could be seeking an exit from Old Trafford in January in order to secure regular playing time, and it appears as though West Brom are ready to offer him that.

As seen with other individuals in the Manchester United squad, Mourinho hasn’t been afraid to leave individuals out if he doesn’t believe that they fit into his plans.

It doesn’t appear as though Schneiderlin can turn the situation around with so much competition for places, and so Pulis and West Brom may well have some joy as they look to add more quality to their squad.
