Jurgen Klopp plotting Liverpool summer transfers but reveals one major possible drawback

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the club are in talks with players over summer transfers but qualifying for the Champions League will be crucial to their strategy.

Prior to their win over Tottenham last weekend, the Reds were at risk of seeing their season entirely capitulate after dropping off the pace in the Premier League title race and crashing out of the cup competitions.

While they’re now 11 points adrift of league leaders Chelsea, more importantly and realistically, they’ve dropped out of the top four and sit a point behind Arsenal.

Qualifying for the Champions League will be essential this summer to attract the top players, and although Klopp insisted that work was already underway to sign new faces, it will also depend on their ability to finish the season strong and finish in the top four.

“We are in talks with different people – players, agents, all that stuff,” Klopp told the Liverpool Echo. Not a lot of decisions have been already made at this point. Why should they at this stage?

“But we are on the way. At the end I’m sure we will have a really good squad. We already have a good squad and a few more good players will make it even better. There’s a good base.

“But of course if we are in the Champions League then it would have an influence. We would need a deeper squad and you have to be prepared for that. No question.”

Having seemingly been unable to maintain their high levels across the season with their current group and without European football, adding quality and depth this summer will be essential for Liverpool if their fixture list becomes more hectic.

Klopp can certainly draw plenty of positives out of this season and there is still a long way to go for things to change, but new signings will be pivotal to their success moving forward.
