Liverpool team news: Klopp blow as pair rated as major doubts for Leicester City clash

Liverpool face a trip to Leicester City on Monday night, and they’ll likely travel without Daniel Sturridge and Dejan Lovren.

Both players were absent from training at Melwood on Thursday, as per The Mirror, with Lovren missing out due to a knee injury which has kept him out of the last two games.

Meanwhile, Sturridge has yet to recover from a virus which forced him to return him early from Liverpool’s training camp in La Manga.

In turn, although both players will continue to be assessed on Friday, they’re both considered major doubts for the trip to the King Power Stadium which will be a setback for Jurgen Klopp who would hope to have a fully fit squad available for selection at this stage of the season.

It promises to be a difficult game after the reigning Premier League champions decided to sack Claudio Ranieri on Thursday, and so there will likely be a reaction from the players with the Foxes desperately fighting to avoid being relegated this season.

Liverpool will have to be at the top of their game to avoid a defeat, as they have their own aspirations of finishing in the top four this season and can ill-afford to drop any more points.

Being without Sturridge is at this stage a familiar feeling, and with the likes of Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho leading the charge, it’s arguably not that big a loss.

However, Lovren’s absence is a little more tricky as it likely means Lucas Leiva will continue in the heart of the defence which is a weakness that could be exploited.
