Arsenal misfit could seal exit in next 24 hours as move to PL rivals edges closer

Arsenal forward Lucas Perez could reportedly be on the verge of moving to West Ham United as his spell with the Gunners is seemingly coming to an end.

The 29-year-old signed for the north London giants in 2016, but was restricted to just 21 appearances in all competitions in his first year with the club despite impressing Arsene Wenger when given an opportunity.

He bagged seven goals that season, but it wasn’t enough to keep him at the Emirates as he spent last year on loan back at former club Deportivo where he scored seven goals in 34 outings.

With Unai Emery now in charge at Arsenal, it could spell the end for his compatriot, with The Sun tipping him to potentially complete a move to West Ham on Monday, via several sources on Twitter.

It would seemingly make sense from an Arsenal perspective, given Emery has plenty of options in attack ahead of the upcoming campaign with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan likely to play heavy minutes in the final third together.

In turn, staying at Arsenal wouldn’t seem like a smart move for Perez if he wishes to secure a prominent role this year and so perhaps a move to join the Hammers will give him that under Manuel Pellegrini as the former Man City boss looks to oversee an ambitious rise for the club after disappointment in recent years.

Time will tell if the deal goes through as quickly as touted, but Perez leaving the Emirates before the transfer deadline seems like a sensible decision for all parties concerned as Emery must surely also need to balance the books and the squad with outgoings to go with his summer signings.
