‘I think..’ – Shearer names manager he expects to be in charge of Newcastle next season

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has stated that manager Eddie Howe “still has plenty of credit in the bank” after loss against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

The pressure has increased on Howe after recent poor results and their exit from the FA Cup.

The Magpies are struggling this season and qualification for Europe next season is looking highly unlikely.

This season’s Newcastle performance pales in comparison to their successful campaign last season in which they qualified for the Champions League and finished in the top four. As a result, questions have been raised over Howe’s future with the team.

Alan Shearer has backed Howe to remain at Newcastle

However, Shearer has downplayed reports that Howe would leave if things don’t improve in the season’s remaining ten games because he believes he still has the support of those in higher positions than him.

Talking on the BBC, Shearer said: “Eddie Howe still has plenty of credit in the bank. Whatever happens this season, whether they finish mid-table or qualify for Europe, Eddie Howe will be Newcastle’s manager next season.

“Manchester City are 38 games unbeaten here [at the Etihad]. When you are the opposing team coming here, you have to take [that into account]. Isak had chances in both halves, nothing. Dan Burn gave up a chance to shoot. You have to take those half chances to get any chance of a result.

Eddie Howe has endured a difficult season at Newcastle

“This season has been tough for Newcastle. However, there have been mitigating circumstances. The injuries, especially to Nick Pope and Joelinton. They miss both of those players a lot.”

Howe will be given chance to lead next season

This season, Newcastle have experienced long-term injuries to several key players, most notably goalkeeper Nick Pope.

As a result, they have been eliminated from European competition and have exited both cups at the quarterfinal stage, despite receiving tough draws in both competitions and an unfavourable Champions League group.

Shearer thinks that Howe has to be supported in the summer and given some new players if they want to avoid the same thing repeating the next season, particularly since some of this year’s crop haven’t been able to regain their form as they did last year.

  1. Eddie should have got his marching orders the minute we lost to Forest, we can’t blame Injuries we lost to ten men Liverpool when we were leading, with 15 minutes left on the clock.
And at the time we had full squad.
Watched Leicester play Chelsea they only lost because they went down to ten men.
We struggled to beat Blackburn come on.

    1. Total rubbish ! They are building a club from scratch ! He is the key man .
You don’t sack the key man in a knee jerk fashion after spending hundreds of millions and start again .
Please allow the club to run its own business.
