Liverpool star grasping desperately at tiny, tiny straws

Harry Kewell should just face facts and pack his bags! Not wishing to be too harsh on the Aussie but unless Rafa loses his mind in the coming months there is little chance the former Leeds man will get a new contract. The injury prone man is in Singapore preparing for a crucial World Cup qualifier against China.

“I’m still fighting for a contract. I have got that Aussie spirit, that never say die, and I’ll take that to the very end. I won’t give up. I’ve been fit for about, God who knows how long now? It’s been a long time. I haven’t missed a training session. I feel great. I feel fit. I feel strong. I’m really looking forward to playing on the weekend” (Sydney Morning Herald)

I think it says a lot that Benitez is more than happy to let Kewell travel half way around the world to play for his national side but the Spaniard is rightly annoyed that Javier Mascherano is playing for Argentina in Egypt. I think this illustrates clearly the separation of players with an Anfield future and those clearly surplus to requirements. There is a part of me that wishes Harry made it with another Premier League club but it seems unlikely in the extreme.
