Could Liverpool make a move for £16m midfield maestro?

Interesting comments coming from a long term Rafa Benitez target could re-ignite Liverpool interest!

Rafael van der Vaart has again written off reports of a move to Real Madrid as “speculation”, but he admitted he would leave Hamburg should an offer arrive from an “absolutely top-class side”.
Van der Vaart’s contract runs until 2010, although he can leave the club for as little as 1.5 million euros in 12 months’ time.
“As I have said on a number of occasions I’m happy at Hamburg, I feel comfortable and I hope to be playing here next season too.”
He added, however: “I would only leave if there is serious interest from an absolutely top-class side.” (sportinglife.com)

Surely Liverpool would come under the banner of ‘top-class side’, so should Rafa speedily arrange a meeting with his board and demand cash for a potential bid? Rafael Van der Vaart is one hell of a midfielder, one of the best set piece takers and he’s pretty hot at crossing the ball and scoring long range efforts also. Basically he is just the kind of player every club wants! Do Anfield fans think that Rafa should try his luck with a cheeky bid to test the water, surely he’s a better signing that Gareth Barry!
