Arsene Wenger appears to be looking for potential replacements for Mathieu Flamini and, according to this latest report, he has decided to consider a bid for this Premier League star.
Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has been linked with a shock move to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
The Spanish player had looked to be heading to Juventus for £15million.
However, Juve instead turned their attention to Valencia’s Christian Poulsen for £7.8m.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is keen to sell Alonso to raise funds to help complete the signatures of Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry and Spurs striker Robbie Keane.
And Arsenal are in the market for a midfielder, having already inquired about the availability of Barry.
And a source close to Alonso told today’s Sun: ‘If the decision was down to Xabi, he would make the move because Arsenal’s style is perfect for him.’ (The Metro)
Rafa seems pretty damn keen to cash in on the Spaniard and, after Juventus refused to meet the valuation of £19m-rated Alonso, it seemed like the former Real Sociedad man had resurrected his Anfield career. The obvious question would be whether Benitez would be willing to sell to one of his rivals? Clearly he wants (and perhaps needs) the money from this projected sale to finance other summer moves, so maybe he would consider the sale to Arsenal simply as a means to an end?
Do Gunners fans feel that Alonso complements the club’s style of play and do Liverpool fans want their boss to reconsider selling Xabi?
