The Blades are one of the favourites to be promoted from the Championship, following their impressive start to the campaign. They were unfortunate to lose 1-0 at Birmingham on the opening day of the season, before thrashing QPR 3-0 in a real statement of intent. Kevin Blackwell has admitted that he’s still looking to bolster the squad, although a former Bramall Lane hero will not be returning to South Yorkshire it seems.
The Star reports that, despite rumours of a possible move, Michael Brown will be staying put at Wigan rather than returning to his former club. The 31-year-old had his best years with United between 2000 and 2004, although his current manager has confirmed he wants to keep hold of the player.
Wigan boss Steve Bruce has ended speculation that Michael Brown could rejoin Sheffield United on loan.
“I keep hearing the Brown rumour but there’s nothing in it. In fact, I don’t see us doing anything before the transfer window shuts.”
Bruce insisted: “We need a good squad and I’ve only got three central midfield players.”
Surely Blades fans will be disappointed to hear that this move won’t be going ahead? Brown was excellent in midfield during his time at the club, scoring plenty of spectacular goals and he certainly would have been an impressive performer at Championship level.
