This will not surprise anyone!
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan expects to find out on Sunday evening whether he will lose boss Steve Bruce to Premier League rivals Sunderland.
Bruce, 48, was given permission to speak to the Black Cats about their vacant managerial post last week.
Whelan told BBC Sport: “Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn told me that he understands he can’t mess about and by Sunday evening we’ll have a decision.
“I’ve asked for £3m in compensation, but I don’t want to lose Steve.” (BBC Sport)
Steve Bruce has previous form for this. He left Wigan after just two months to join Crystal Palace where he again lasted about as long as a pint of milk left in the Sahara before quitting for a move to Birmingham. He returned to the JJB two years ago but if i was a betting man, which i am, i would guarantee that he will leave again to join the so called ‘bigger’ team as is his style.
Forget the fact that the team he currently manages finished nine points higher than Sunderland as surely Mr. Bruce will do! Expect a few Latics players to make a similar move!
However it could be a blessing in disguise as Paul Jewell would be an ideal candidate to return to Wigan and doesn’t appear to have much in the way of employment elsewhere!
