Check in to Arsenal vs Reading

Reading have appointed former Southampton boss Nigel Adkins as their new manager.

The 48 year old replaced Brian McDermott and has signed a contract that runs until 2016.

Russian owner Anton Zingarevich insists the appointment is for both the “short and long term”.

Adding “He has great respect within the game,”

“His CV speaks for itself and he has many attributes as a manager, he is progressive, he develops players, his teams
play attacking, passing football but most of all he knows how to win games at all levels.

“This is an appointment we have made both with the short and long term in mind and Nigel can take our club forward.”

Adkins took Southampton to back to back promotions and into the Premier League before he was harshly sacked by the St Mary’s side in January.

Nigel Adkins’s first game will see him take charge of the relegation threatened side away at Arsenal but will then be followed by a crucial six-pointer against his former South-Coast employers.
