Manchester City are lining up a shock summer swoop to bring Bayern Munich midfielder Arjen Robben back to the Premier League, according to talkSPORT.

The 29-year-old has failed to nail down a regular first team sport for the Bundesliga champions this year and it has been reported that he s one of the names on new boss Pep Guardiola’s chopping block when he takes over next month and with Mario Gotze en route from Borussia Dortmund the Dutch international may find his playing time diminish even more next season.

Turkish giants Galatasaray were reported to be considering a bid for the winger, but it is Manchester City who have jumped ahead in the queue.

City have suffered with a lack of natural width this season and believe that Robben’s trickery and experience will benefit them next term as they look to steal the title back off Manchester United.

Robben is a familiar face to the Premier League having spent three years at Chelsea between 2004-07 where he made 105 appearances, scoring 19 goals. He then left for Spanish side Real Madrid before joining Bayern in 2009.

Reports in Spain believe that the two clubs are close to agreeing the £17 million fee that the Bavarian club are asking for.
