Eagles told to stump up big fee for Bloomfield Road duo.
Crystal Palace boss Ian Holloway had seemingly had designs on signing two of his former Bloomfield Road charges, that was until he was told just how much he’d need to fork out to bring them to Selhurst Park.
The Daily Mirror claims that Holloway’s advances for highly rated youngsters Matt Phillips and Tom Ince would set his South London side back a whopping £14m.
The argument for such high prices is apparently down to the fact that a substantial portion of any sales of the pair would have to be fed down the chain to the pair’s respective previous employers, namely Wycombe Wanderers and Liverpool.
Holloway knows his Crystal Palace side will need to be improved if he is to keep the Eagles in the top flight, not least as their star player, Wilfried Zaha is now at Man United, though reportedly Crystal Palace have hopes of bringing in the England man for another loan spell.
Tom Ince is also be tracked by his former side Liverpool and will now be considering his options after a phenomenal season in the Championship in 2012/13, during which the young attacker not only scored 18 goals but also finished as the division’s highest assist maker.
Matt Phillips is a full Scottish international and clearly another player with a bright future and another talent that the Tangerines can sorely do with as they set about trying to secure promotion back into the top flight.
