Liverpool want to push through the move for Mignolet this week.
Liverpool have stepped up their attempts to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and are set to offer the Black Cats £8 million, the Daily Mail reports.
This now opens up the possibility that Liverpool’s current number one goalkeeper, Pepe Reina, will leave Anfield during the summer.
Liverpool’s managing director Ian Ayre has cut short a trip to Brazil in order to push through a move for Mignolet and the Reds are set to offer Sunderland £8 million for goalkeeper, although the Black Cats are thought to be holding out for £10 million.
With Mignolet coming in, Pepe Reina may be on his way out after 7 seasons at Anfield.
The Spanish goalkeeper has been strongly linked with a move back to Barcelona, with the Catalan club seeing Reina as an ideal replacement for Victor Valdes, who is out of contract next summer.
Valdes recently stated that he would stay at the club until next season when he can leave on a free transfer but Barcelona may take the opportunity to sell Valdes now and replace him with Reina, meaning they get a transfer fee for Valdes.
AC Monaco are thought to be in the hunt for Valdes as well as Premier League side Arsenal.
