North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are both set to battle it out this summer for the signature of highly rated Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, reports the Daily Express.

The coveted Italy international has been the subject of much interest of late from a whole host of clubs from across Europe, including the likes of Premier League and Serie A champions Manchester United and Juventus respectively.

However, it now appears as though Tottenham and the Gunners are also both keen on landing the classy 25-year-old now that the summer transfer window has finally reopened for business.

The centre back has been at San Siro for the past two-and-a-half seasons, having originally arrived at the Serie A giants from fellow Italian outfit Genoa for 19 million euros in Dec 2010.

And in the intervening period, Ranocchia has gone on to establish himself as one of the most consistent and dominant central defenders plying their trade on the Continent, having featured in 79 matches overall in all competitions for Inter, scoring five goals in the process, including four strikes in his 54 league contests for the club.

As a result, the two London heavyweights are now set to go head to head for the defender, who still has two years left to run on his current contract with the Nerazzurri.
