Carlos Puyol is not expecting midfielder Cesc Fabregas to leave Barcelona despite interest from Manchester United, Goal.com reports.
United had a £25.9 million bid rejected by Barcelona last week but over the weekend, the Red Devils have upped their offer to £30 million plus add-ons.
While Barcelona consider the bid, Fabregas is said to be considering whether or not to move back to England, with United promising him first team football in his favoured central midfield position.
However, Puyol believes that Fabregas will remain at the Nou Camp and will reject the interest shown by Manchester United.
“I do not think that Cesc will leave Barca,” Puyol stated on the club’s official Twitter feed.
Puyol also admitted that he was shocked at the news that Tito Vilanova had stepped down as Barcelona manager to concentrate on his fight with cancer.
The defender has said that he will put it some impressive performances for the club next season as a sign of support for Vilanova.
“What has happened with Tito is a huge blow for us. We did not see this coming and the team suffers a lot,” Puyol told reporters.
“Tito has already shown us that he is really strong and he is ready to battle. The team will be by his side any time he needs us.
“He has asked us to give our all on the pitch. That would be the best way to support him and we will do our utmost to give him some joy.”
Puyol himself is coming back from a knee injury that hindered his participation in Barcelona campaign’s last season.
