North Londoners are desperate to add reinforcements to their injury-ravaged back four.
Tottenham Hotspur are considering making a move for highly rated Sporting Lisbon centre-back Tiago Ilori this summer following a raft of injuries to a number of key defenders during preseason, reports the Daily Mail.
The north London club have already seen both central defenders Younes Kaboul and Jan Vertonghen go down with problems during their recent warm-up fixtures this summer, with neither player expected to have returned to full fitness by the start of the new Premier League season on Aug 17.
As a result, Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas is preparing a list of possible defensive targets for the club to pursue before the close-season transfer window slams shut once and for all for the year on Sept 2.
And one of the names on the Portuguese’s wish list is believed to be that of Sporting’s young centre-back Ilori, who has also been tracked by Premier League rivals Liverpool all summer long.
The Portugal Under-20 international, who was actually born in London, has been with the Lisbon giants for his whole career to date, making his debut for Sporting two years ago.
However, despite having played just a handful of games in the Portuguese capital, the 20-year-old has still made a name for himself across the Continent, and with a contract in Lisbon until 2015, it is expected that Spurs will have to fork out £8 million in order to land the Portuguese this summer.
