Thomas Muller believes that Bayern Munich cannot afford a slow start to the season as they prepare for the first match of the Bundesliga season against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday, Goal.com reports.
Fans of the club have high expectations of the team following heir historic campaign last season where they won the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal Cup and the Champions League.
The club have also appointed Pepe Guardiola as their new manager and added Thiago Alcantara and Mario Gotze to their first team squad.
With expectations raised to huge levels, Muller believes that Bayern simply have to keep on winning.
“I am really looking forward to the start of the Bundesliga season, just like everybody else in Germany,” Muller was quoted as saying by Bild.
“The expectations are always high and that will not be any different this season. Winning is all that matters at Bayern”.
“We want to live up to the expectations and will always try to win”.
“Games against Gladbach are never easy. They are organised very well. We will have to give our all if we are to win.”
Some reports have suggested that Bayern are struggling to get used to Guardiola’s new methods, with the Spaniard keen on playing only one holding midfielder in teams central midfield.
This differs greatly from last season, when Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez formed an excellent partnership at the heart of the Bayern team.
