Emirates Stadium side desperate to land top quality schemer.
Arsenal are hopeful of securing a deal to sign Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler with the North London side ready to fork out as much as £40m to land the highly rated youngster according to the Daily Mirror.
The teenage German international is considered one of the hottest prospects in European football and his Bundesliga employers have stated previously that they would expect £60m for the 19 year old but could perhaps be tempted to cash in for the sizable amount Arsenal are willing to pay this summer.
Having thus far failed to spent a single penny on new additions; Yaya Sanogo and Mathieu Flamini both joining on free transfers, Arsene Wenger will still have significant funds to use before the transfer window slams shut on Monday evening.
Schalke star Draxler only signed a two year contract at the end of last term and could therefore be a tough target to land.
However Schalke did sign midfielder Kevin Price-Boateng from AC Milan yesterday and the Ghana international could perhaps be viewed as a potential replacement for Draxler, who already has 115 top tier appearances for Schalke despite still be shy of his 20th birthday, the rangy midfielder also has half a dozen national team caps to his name.
Wenger has certainly been happy to shop in the Bundesliga of late, signing first teamers such as Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker as well as young talents Thomas Eisfeld and Serge Gnabry.
