The 21 year old rangy midfielder has a growing list of admirers since breaking into the Sporting Lisbon first team set-up after spending time out on loan in Belgium with Cercle Brugge, earning a national team call-up last month.
Sporting Lisbon have slapped a €45m release clause on Carvalho, who is tied to the Primeira Liga club until 2018, though one would imagine it would take a lesser fee to secure the youngster given the club’s financial problems which led to the sales of Ricky van Wolfswinkel, Tiago Ilori and Bruma, among others, to Norwich City, Liverpool and Galatasaray respectively.
Arsene Wenger may feel his side could do with an injection of further steel to help protect his creative midfielders, the lack of which led to the free transfer signing of former Gunners man Mathieu Flamini over the summer.
Carvalho has been compared to former Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira and is certainly a player with a bright future.
